film viewing practice essay

The scenes throughout the agent carter are very visible. The camera angles are very sudden due to the movie being an action movie but are fairly repetitive such as at 0:19 the camera angles are mostly close-ups of either Captain America and Peggy during the intense moment between them. Another example is at 1:16 when the group discovers that the plane had fallen and everyone goes back to their work. Also, the camera angles used for after Captain America landing/crashing is a landscape shot showing the drastic fall and the harsh impact. At 3:58 throughout the fight the camera angle is now shoulder view from both characters. All the movements are fast pace after the work environment is shown and Peggy receives an important call.

The music in the clip is mostly non-digestic sound because no character can hear it except the audience. The only digestic sounds in the clip are the phone and sirens ringing in more than one scene. In between the scene of Peggy being ignored on taking a mission on her own the contrast is that she ends up being in a situation in which she is the only one to take on a mission and is shown by contrast editing. Also, at 0:33 to 0:53 there is symbolism in between Peggy calling out to Steve with no response and sirens going off in the next scene. Meanwhile, the whole clip is able to be successful due to the accurate costumes of each character and the acting of Peggy to show the raw emotions of the scene as well as using deep space emphasized on the details each character made especially during her crying scene of Steve's departure and a year later the longing she has for him after so much time gone.

Quarter 2 - week 1

i decided to do my mise en scene from the show “strong woman bong-soon “ which is a korean drama. I chose to do this show in specific because it’s not the typical broad show its only a season long with 16 episodes and a deep rooted plot story as well as the fact that I enjoyed the show so much in everybody aspect that I took the chance to watch it again.
The first scene of the show is the main boy character to be showing the audience a flashback of when he was on the bus and a random girl stopped the bus from a crash and considered her an Angel form above. The scene is taken in shallow space focusing on the weird event with the bus suddenly being stopped and how the boy reacts. The shallow space helped move the story along by creating a center point for the future occurancd thtought the show.
The next few scenes setting is in the city of Seoul, Bong, and the Ainsoft company offices in South Korea which are key factors to the plot of the show. The wardrobe picked out for the actors allows the audience to see how carefree and easy going life the young girl has and chose her outfits to express innocence such as cute little designs skirts, bright blisss, and soft makeup while the boy is far more extravagant because the boy is the CEO of a large gaming company in his early 20’s. The Lighting was above in a soft high- key approach able to make the scenes more sweet and loving in order to show the everyday life of the young girl who is the bodyguard of the CEO and is in a love triangle and eventually falls in love with her boss. The shoes develops with various points of views to really grasp the views attention.

week 8

This is the new edited video with the sounds included
http://youtu.be/P4vHSobefk0

the first kind of sound is non-diegetic sound which is the suspense action music in the background of the contrast clip which is when the boy is rushing to get home for his sisters birthday but while inside he realizes that he got the time wrong and there was no one inside. It changed the clip by expressing the rush the individual had during the clip which connects to the viewer.

The next sound was direct sound which is the background noise outside of the main focus of the video of the symbolism clip which is the center image being the pills and transforming into an eye. The sound allows the viewer to realize that the image has a deeper meaning.

The sound for simultaneity is a voice-over in the conversation the girl has on the phone and then the small conversation she has between the girl and the boy on the wrong address. The sound shows what is going on during the scenes and create a backstory.

The sound is offscreen sound through the parallelism clip in the glass cup in which they accidentally run into each other by soft little noise that shows the atmosphere in the place. The sound impacts the clip by allowing the viewer to feel as if they are experiencing what they are witnessing.

The last kind of sound is music through the leit motiff clip of the calmly relaxed cat to show his everyday lifestyle. The sound changed the clip to have a connection and a sense of emotions while watching the clip.

week 7

The five shots I chose to use were from the show "Criminal Minds" season 6, episode 23.  The first clip shown is symbolism between a geographic map which the bau is using to determine the comfort zone of the killer or unsub and the scene changes from the map to a puddle of water from a leaking sink of the unsub's house where he is arguing with the rest of the members of the group because he doesn't want to kill anymore.

The next shot is parallelism in episode 18 of  "criminal minds" when an FBI agent, Emily Prentiss is captured by her fake husband she asks him to show her where his son died and is repeating the words to just breath and it connects to the time that she was an undercover agent and is pretending to be his wife and she was happily playing with his son.

In this clip, it shows a leitmotif during the funeral of an FBI agent named Emily Prentiss and there is sad music behind the whole memorial service and even every time one of the members of the group talked about their feelings on the loss of Prentiss the same sad song would play.

the next shot in contrast which is the group going to watch a horror movie after work hours and talk about the aspects each individual disliked /liked about horror movies. At the same time, the group members explained traits of a murder scene, there was a young woman that was experiencing the same things being said because she was being stalked.

the last shot is simultaneity and it was in season 6 episode 18 when Emily Prentiss is going to meet up with a link she has to the unsub at a pub with a green clover golden envelope and it flashes back to the first time she met him 8 years prior with the same green clover golden card.

Video shots

These are the 5 shots I  chose to make
http://premiereclip.adobe.com/videos/CeYVvaG7tEo

The first example shot is contrast which is shown by a boy running home because he believes that he is late to his sisters birthday party and rushing there, he opens up the door to realize it’s empty and dark inside. The boy finally realized that he got the date wrong this whole time.

The next example was symbolism which is show through a bottle of medication and slowly turns into  the eye of a young girl which may be conveyed that no one is perfect, not even at a young age.

The example for simultaneity was a girl on the phone telling someone to go to a “pink house with a white door” except when he reached the destination he sees that there are 2 pink house next door to each other and decides to use his gut to pick one and knocks on the door to find it that it was not even the right house.

The example for parallelism is two people that are complete strangers  during a dinner are distracted and are accidentally reaching out for the same cup of water and at the same time grab the cup.

The example for Leit motif was a cat lazily walking around and then eventually laying down with nice cheerful music showing how the car has no care in the world.

Movie watched

The movie I decided to watch was The Avengers Infinity war, I think infinity war is the 4th avenger's movie so far.

The first shot I saw in the movie was the introduction into the start of Thanos mission which was to retrieve all the 6 gems of life that are throughout the universe which were reality, space, time, vision, power, and soul. In the scene, Thanos's helpers and himself have just beaten Thor and destroyed all of his homeland named Asgard because it was the protector of the space gem. The scene is taken as a follow shot because it slowly expands the view and follows Thanos's men.
After Loki which is Thors younger brother gave Thanos the gem in order for Thor's life to be spared. Thanos places the blue gem into his glove device that allowed him to gain their power. The scene is taken in a close-up shot focusing on the dust transforming into the gem.

Loki is the God of Mischief and therefore decided to try to trick Thanos into bringing him along to earth for his mission of retrieving 2 gems from earth. Loki is trying to sneakily convince Thanos by persuading him with his loyalty had other plans in killing Thanos. The shot is an extreme close up as well as a close up on the knife Loki was hiding behind his back and his face when Thanos was fully aware the whole tie of Loki's plan and strangles him.

Loki tried to create a surprise attack on Thanos with Hulk and the scene is taking in a long shot as well as off the shoulder too throughout the fighting scene between both Thanos and Hulk. Unfortunately, Hulk loses and Thanos knocks out Thor leaving him alone in space while he used the space (blue) gem to travel to earth causing more destruction in his path.
The scene in the video is about Peter which is Spiderman and notices some disruption in the city. Peter decides to ask his close friend to make some distraction so no one sees him sneak out the bus and put on his uniform. Peter manages to sneak out and goes to where the chaos is happening to help his fellow friends such as Ironman and Dr. Strange. The scene is taken in a two-shot and off the shoulder angle because you can see Peter and his friend having a conversation in two different angles such as when Peter is trying to get his friends attention and the afterward a different angle when his friend about creating a distraction.
In this video, one of Thanos's servants is trying to steal the time (green) gem from Dr. Strange but he is willing to give in order to protect the gem from the destruction of the universe.  Dr. Strange is being strangled by veins controlled by Thanos's servants and through his magic abilities in being a wizard Dr. Strange lets his cap take control on all its own which allows it to protect him by taking his body elsewhere, as far away from Thanos's servant trying to buy Ironman, Spiderman, and Dr. Strange time.. The scene shows an off the shoulders when we witness Dr. Strange being suffocated by the veins as well as a dolly shot when Dr. Strange's cap takes off with him .

week 3 assignment

The 2 people I chose to look into their blogs are Trent Fetzer and Eric Kenton. The shots I commented under for Eric was the head-on shot because he didn't use the typical subject and chose to be direct and use something he enjoyed as well in his shot which made his clip unique to watch. I thought that his shock shot had a very different style in shooting this shot.

In Trent's blog, the shots that were interesting to me was the reaction and the flash shot because even though it was done with the instructions exactly, it was turned into a comedic form. The shots gave me a feeling of humor and enjoyment. Also, the shots gave me a sense of closeness as if I was there during the shot which formed a stronger connection with the subject.

Week 2 assignment blog

Dolly Shot: It seemed very simple at first but I realized that it's a bit harder than expected because you have to have your shots in sync to your walking pace as well as paying attention to your surroundings.

Cameo shot: This shot was taken very quickly because it's very simple because the subject is still and the shot focuses on them. Overall the shot does not take much time.

.

Follow shot: This example is difficult because you need to see that you're keeping the subject in the frame and keep pace with them but paying attention to your surroundings.

Point of view: This example is not that difficult because putting your phone close to your chest allows you to keep your camera balanced and simply just walking and interacting with someone else. I enjoyed this shot the best because it is interesting to actually shoot this kind of perspective.

Two Shot: This example is simple because you can easily place your camera down at a certain angle that includes both people. I didn't struggle much with this shot.

Over the shoulder shot: This shot is more work than others because I realized that I have to include more individuals as well as capturing both people and focusing the camera to be off to the side.

Close- up: This example was simple because the camera focused on the water and the hand rather a moving subject.

Extreme close-up: This example was somewhat easy to shoot because I could easily focus on the subjects face but holding my hand steady as well as getting an angle in which her face bright to be seen was hard to figure out.

pan shot: This example seemed fairly easy at first but realized it far more difficult than I first thought because I couldn't take shot slowly or have a specific subject in my film shots.

Low angle shot: This example was quite difficult due to the fact that I can't tell where exactly the camera is focusing on or whether or not I'm in the frame.

Close-shot: This example is was not tough to capture because I consider this angle to be the standard form of way videos are shot majority of the time.

Establishing shot: This example is a natural style to take videos when it comes to taking landscape videos of a place is in this format.

Why I'm taking Aice media studies?

The reasoning behind me entering this course is that I wanted to continue on with Aice and Media studies seemed like an interesting class (plus I was 99.9% sure I was going to fail Milner's class ~.~ ) so I admit I was looking for a backup to Aice Euro too... but OVERALL it was due to thinking that this class was different from other Aice courses because its all about creativity and personal touch to your work which is something I enjoy. Hopefully, throughout this class, I learn to use different forms of video and photography forms. Also, I believe this class will allow me to think outside the box and do new types of works that I'm not extremely used to but willing to change that through this class. Over the years, I stopped using a creative perspective but now in this class I can try to get back into it which I know I will enjoy.((:
